La meta de los servicios de beneficios públicos es asegurar que familias inmigrantes y otras personas limitadas en el inglés prosperen por reduciendo
las barreras que inmigrantes con bajos ingresos y sus hijos enfrentaran cuando busquen beneficios y ayuda publica como Allkids, Medicare, Extra Help, QMB, SLIMB,
Illinois Senior Care, RX, Medicaid, Food Stamps, SSI, AABD, KidCare, FamilyCare, TANF, WIC, LIHEPA, etc. Ellos necesitan prosperar salud, bienestar, y tener una
economía suficiente. Para lograr esta meta, los siguientes servicios son ofrecidos:
1. Servicios de Beneficios Pública
The goal of the public benefits services is to ensure that immigrant families and other limited English speaking persons are able to thrive by reducing the barriers that low-income immigrants and their children face when seeking public benefits and services, such as Allkids, Medicare Extra Help, QMB, SLIMB, Illinois Senior Care RX, Medicaid, Food Stamp, SSI, AABD, KidCare, FamilyCare, TANF, WIC, LIHEAP etc., they need for proper health, well-being and economic self-sufficiency. To accomplish this goal, the following services are provided:
- Information and referral services
- Case management services
- Interpretation and/or translation services Outreach
- Public Benefits education workshops
This program is funded by Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.
2. Public Health Services
The goal of public health services is to help not only uninsured and underinsured individuals to access appropriate health care services, but also promotes and protects the health of our community through providing information & referral, free screenings, health outreach & educational workshops, and health fair.
1) Building Better Bones Project
The program provide outreach, education, risk assessment and bone density screening for osteoporosis. The target population is moderate to high-risk women over 40. To increase women’s knowledge of osteoporosis and its prevention, we conduct osteoporosis awareness campaigns using Korean radio, television and print media. Also, we have built strong collaborations with civic groups, churches and other women’s groups to increase osteoporosis awareness and identify high-risk women at group educational sessions. This program is funded by Illinois Department of Public Health, Office of Women's Health.
2) Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Project
To increase the awareness of breast and cervical cancer and screening rates of Korean American women age 35 and over living in the suburban metropolitan Chicago area, Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Project will be launched upcoming fiscal year, funded by United Way of Metropolitan Chicago. The program will provide outreach, education, free screening, information and referral, and case management to those who need further screenings and treatments for breast and cervical cancer through interpretation and translation services.
3) Hepatitis B Education & Free Screening Program
In order to identify individuals and families at risk for Hepatitis-B infection and increase the knowledge of Hepatitis-b and its prevention, in collaboration with Asian Health Coalition of Illinois, free vaccinations and culturally appropriate education workshops have been provided.
4) Free Health Screenings and Educational workshops
In collaboration with community health care service providers, we have provided a wide range of free health screenings and educational workshops for Korean families. Free mammogram screenings, vaccinations and immunizations for children and adults, blood pressure screenings, prostate cancer education and free screening, basic health check-up services have been provided.
5) Tobacco Cessation Helpline
To address the strong and urgent need for a culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate tobacco control counseling needs among limited English speaking Korean smokers and their family members, we launched a Korean Cessation Help Line service in November 2005. Our trained bilingual and bicultural staff, one a former heavy smoker, provides individual one-on-one counseling based on developed counseling protocol. Callers will be able to access the Helpline, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
7) Annual Health Fair
Since 1977, annual heath fair has been conducted collaborate with Swedish Covenant Hospital. Through this health fair, more than 14000 underinsured and uninsured Korean people have chance to receive appropriate medical exams. The health fair offers free checkups in the following areas: internal medicine, podiatry, allergy, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and dentistry. Moreover, the event provided consultations with pharmacists, free medications, and various screenings and lab tests at a discount.
8) Understanding Menopause Program
Provide educational workshops and individual counseling to Korean women age 40 and over. The program not only helps Korean women understand physical and emotional challenges they can face during menopause period, but also teach them how to cope with this difficult period in a healthy way.
9) Flu Shot
Provide free flu vaccination for those who are from low-income families and seniors. First comes first served. Please arrive earlier to reserve your shot.
